Artistic Flourish

About Rachel

Rachel trained at Cheltenham College of Art and Leicester College of Art between 1967 and 1971. After working in advertising in the West End for a short period, Rachel moved into freelance illustration work, with a particular emphasis on children's publications.

The 70's and 80's

Whilst raising a young family, Rachel continued her freelance work and began to develop a range of greetings cards, hand-painted watercolour miniature pictures and hand-made patchwork, retailing these by mail order. One of her most popular products was the liberty print tea cosy, hundreds of these being sold during this period, including large orders to the USA.

The 90's

In 1990 Rachel aqcuired a kiln and began painting on porcelain and bone china. This gradually became the predominant feature of her work, producing a range of personalised commemorative wares; typically plates, jugs and loving cups for special occasions such as weddings, anniversaries and birth announcements.

Her designs included an Alice in Wonderland range, which is still immensely popular today.

The New Millenium

Rachel's portfolio of products expanded further to include a range of greetings cards, featuring children's names and a wildlife alphabet, a cider apple alphabet and a butterfly calendar. She exhibits her work on a regular basis at the Cotswold Craft Market held in Cirencester Corn Hall.

Following the death of her first husband, Rachel relocated to rural Herefordshire where she met professional Autoharp specialist, Mike Fenton, in 2006. They married in 2007 and work closely together to support each other's creative endeavours. The increased presence of music in Rachel's life is reflected in a new interest in producing painted china with muscal themes.

Always open to new opportunities, Rachel's work combines a traditional approach with an enthusiasm for nostalgic appeal.
